Enjoyable, staple Iranian fare. Menu is small, one special per night. Good abgusht soup--when available. Good neighbourhood resto, but not spectacular.

I have eaten three times at Pushap over the years and been terribly disappointed every time. The food is utterly bland and the service is overbearing. Everything tastes soupy and unstructured and while the host lectures you on how virtuous it all is. Only go here if you have vegan friends who can't tell the difference between eating and tasting. Avoid.

Standard Indian fare. Undistinguished in most every way. Fine for dinner if you are in the neighbourhood, but no real reason to head here specifically. Somewhat cheaper than Le Taj, I suppose.

Good dependable Indian fare. Used to be fantastic but has settled into the category of very good for the money. Worth driving to Jean-Talon to go here. Ambiance is just fine (what the hell do some people expect? Silver elephant statues?) and the service is good, though the staff all seems to be new last time we went (March 2005). Food is appropriately spicy, sometimes superb, sometimes okay, depends on the business of the place. Often jammed, sometimes empty. A bit better some nights than others, still very worthwhile and affordable and child friendly. Baigan bharta and chicken dhansak are very good dishes. Avoid the mango lassis, however, as they are not made from scratch.

I found this resto extraordinarily charming and delicious. Yes, there are issues with the 2 seatings per night and the total absence of parking anywhere near, but look beyond that. The service is mercifully unpretentious, the food is properly made from scratch and the menu is inventive and yet comforting. Very enjoyable for a proper evening out, and the BYOW policy makes it affordable. Very high rating from me.

Bergamote is a hit and miss place. Some of the dishes are good but others are insipid and dreadful. The hors d'oeuvres are significantly better than the entrees. I had a flank steak that was pure shoe leather. De-gue-lasse. But my wife had an excellent duck confit starter. We went in a big party (20 people) so perhaps that explains the mediocre overall effect. The service was patient, effective, but perhaps a bit slow. The surrounding is appealing with its stone basement effect but it might not be to all tastes. The price was also reasonable---too cheap in some senses I think, considering $25 brought a table d'hote that was just about worth that and nothing more. Maybe to be tried in a smaller party next time, but the majority of the food was not good enough to warrant a return.

Unbeatable. The soups are huge, fresh, delicious. The main courses are less inspiring overall, but so what. The lemongrass dishes are top-notch, though, so there's one to pick as well. Pho Ga especial tout le temps. Decor is functional at best, but for this price where the hell else will you eat better?

Pizzas are delicious, pasta dishes are very good. Rapid service, though yes, the servers will tell you the brothers are bastards to work for (hi, Caibh + Barb). The food is very good considering the fast turnaround and the quality doesn't waver. They do it fast and right. The prices have been creeping upward and the pizzas are not cheap anymore but you will not find comparable quality elsewhere. Amelio's is part of a McGill student's staple diet.

According to the Gazette food critic (ca. 2000) this was the single best French resto in Montreal for the money. So I went. I was not disappointed but it is not quite as spectacular as promised. It is very very good, a bit conservative, features top quality ingredients and presentation. However, with the exception of the fig pastry dessert---which was one the best things I have eaten in my life---the food was not wowing me. It's all good but doesn't impress me so much as comfort me that I am in steady sure hands. The bill for dinner for four, with drink and tip, was $376. It is not cheap. I enjoyed it, but overall it is not distinctly better than apportez-votre-vin restos at half the cost. I am convinced that the best resto in Montreal is yet to be found.

Hands down, this is the worst 'trendy' resto in Montreal: oui, le plus pire resto 'trendy' dans Montreal. I have had the misfortune of being obliged to go to this resto with friends on three occasions, each time worse than the last. First off, the food is not exotic whatsoever. So you get to eat with injera--big deal. It's wonder-bread: flavourless, chewy and dull. Second, the sauces are inspid, bland, _flavourless_, and the portions are ridiculously small. Every time I have been it is the same--you get a tiny portion, maybe two pieces of meat to share for four people. Ridiculous. Third, the service is incredibly bad: terrible at keeping tables open, sullen delivery, charmless staff behind the counter. To top it, the last time I went, the waiter demanded, yes, *insisted*, that I pay half the bill in cash so he could cheat the taxman. The nerve! This is exactly the kind of resto that young people think is exotic and special because graceless people in African costumes bring you funny food (if you want exotic, try Laotian or Uighur or Russian, perhaps). Please, avoid this place--it is terrible. I know because I have been several times. Oh, it is also a total ripoff valuewise. How Souvenirs d'Afrique closed down while this place lasted is beyond me. You go home hungry having been charged way too much and all you got to stare at was a dirty fishtank. LE PIRE!

Beautiful decor, good downtown location, but food is largely staple soft Indian. Without anything really to recommend, it does the job, but is pricey for what you get. If you like mild Indian food I guess it is good, but if you want zing, go elsewhere.

Wow, there are a lot of negative comments on this place, but I have eaten here five or six times and keep coming back. Yes, the seating arrangement is very tight; yes the menu is printed in tiny tiny italics and french only, yes, the extension room on the west side is a converted garage. Yes, it can be smoky and loud and the service can be a bit unattentive. That all said, the decor inside the main hall is beautiful, the menu is extremely extensive and allows all kinds of combinations, the portion sizes are appropriate considering the quality of the viandes involved, and best of all the price is low considering what you are getting in chef made from scratch cuisine. This is definitely one of the better, tastier French restos in town. If you like seafood, Spanish style, and meat Provencale style, with some zing and zip, then this is an excellent resto that won't break your budget.

Excellent for southern Indian food, especially Fruit Chat and the like with yogurt and spicy sev. You will find dishes here you cannot elsewhere. Menu could be broader to include more meat dishes and variety for the carnivores, but this is an excellent place for vegetarians. Dosas are first class; the fire dosa really is firey indeed. Service is also excellent and charming. I love coming back as a regular. Overall: it's out of the way, way up Sources, but very well worth driving to check out the cuisine that is different from elsewhere. Now that Shahi Palace is back, though, the competition sets in!
