This place appears to be now closed. You can still see some tables and chairs through the window but much of the rest is packed up and it looks like serious renovations are under way.

When and where: 2005-11-08 - Chateau La Lune

Overall: Value: Ambiance: Service: Food:

This place offers American-diner style Chinese food with plenty of MSG. If you can get "Chinese" food anywhere else, take that instead. The buffet is disgusting, if ample; the decor is the only redeeming factor--a bit charming on the inside, but not enough to make up for the terrible, terrible food.

I must admit I have been off of Greek food for the past couple of years--too many bad experiences in too many bad Greek restaurants. Hermès, though, was a nice surprise--very tasty Greek food. The locale itself is a little run-down, but the service and the buffet where you can see the food before you order is quite good.

When and where: 2005-06-17 - Zyng

Overall: Value: Ambiance: Service: Food:

The food at Zyng is at the extremes--it can be quite good or quite bad, depending on what you choose. Their Shanghai noodles, for example, are quite good, but their soba noodles are terrible. The service is typical lazy Montreal--if they're not smoking a cigarette at the time, the wait staff might come talk to you. Those who described Zyng as too American are probably used to eating at typically filthy Montreal establishments. It is an interesting concept and a chain that serves more interesting food than, say, La Belle Province or Olive Garden.

This is more of a scenester place to see and be seen, rather to enjoy nice food and service. The club sandwich was OK but the wait staff was disinterested at best. My waitress was more content to gossip and smoke than to speak to any customers. With the exception of when my food came, I had to go up to the counter to get/ask for everything. If you're just going for a coffee you'll probably be happier just going to the Second Cup across the street.

When and where: 2005-03-24 - Lezvos Ouest

Overall: Value: Ambiance: Service: Food:

Except for the atmosphere (read: really dim lighting), this place was terrible. The fried zucchini & eggplant main course was like a giant deep-fried bar snack. They charge $13.95 for it! On the plus side, they carry Greek beer.

When and where: 2005-03-23 - Smoked Meat Pete

Overall: Value: Ambiance: Service: Food:

This is a good place for smoked meat and a down-homey atmosphere, but don't go there to hang out with upscale clientele. If you want to hang out with a loud, boisterous blue-collar crowd who are alien to how to use knives and chew with mouths closed, this is the place. If you want anything close to fine dining, you'll have to head farther down the 20.

When and where: 2005-03-03 - Bonne Carte (La)

Overall: Value: Ambiance: Service: Food:

First of all, this is a casino restaurant, which means that the food will tend to be of good quality, not too challenging, and expensive. My meal as La Bonne Carte was just that. The fries that came with my sandwich were cold, and the wait staff indifferent. Also, because it is a casino, the clientele will tend to be geriatric. If you like it bland, expensive, and with oldsters, this is the place.
